Quid Pro Quo

While Pete Stark apologizes for telling the truth (dammit!), el presidente de Ecuador, Rafael Correa, doesn't:
Ecuador's leftist President Rafael Correa said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador's Pacific coast.
...
"If there's no problem having foreign soldiers on a country's soil, surely they'll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States."
...
Correa, a popular leftist economist, had promised to cut off his arm before extending the lease that ends in 2009 and has called U.S. President George W. Bush a "dimwit".
Tough and perceptive.

So you think it is "truth" that the president wants heads blown off for his own enjoyment. You're sicker than Stark, who's probably just crazy.

Eh, nobody knows what he's thinking. But with the way that he cries "More money! More power! More soldiers to Iraq!" with the reasoning that "If you don't, the terrrists are gonna git'cha", one might wonder whether he takes a sort of amusement with how easy it is for him to make the people dance by pulling their strings. Even if people do end up dying when he does it.

Norma,
I took a look at your various blogs and I understand why you're focusing on the word "amusement" instead of the actual statement that Congressman Stark made. But I'll go there with you. You're substituting the word "enjoyment" which makes the statement perverse, but I'll still go there with you. George Bush is the sick puppy in this equation. He clearly enjoys dressing up as a pilot, pretending he actually landed a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier. He appears to enjoy being a "war president," as he so often refers to himself, and sending troops into battle is part and parcel of being a "war president." Even Peggy Noonan, former Reagan speechwriter, has noticed Bush's disconcerting "high spirits" during war. She mentions Lincoln and LBJ, "with his head in his hands," suffering through their war presidencies. She doesn't think he's just putting his best face forward, and neither do I. It isn't an improbable leap from torturing small animals to being amused by having the power of life or death over those unfortunate enough to be under one's thumb.

Alex,
Thanks for setting a polite tone with your response. It helped me locate my manners, such as they are.
