A War Criminal AND a Traitor

Wow.
Henry Kissinger sent tens of thousands of young American GIs to die for a cause he knew wasn't necessary.
During secret talks with Zhou Enlai in June 1972, Kissinger explained U.S. Vietnam strategy. Following his "decent interval" approach, Kissinger argued that the White House could not accept Hanoi's proposals to eject South Vietnamese leaders from power, but would accept the political changes that could occur after the United States withdrew forces from Vietnam: "if, as a result of historical evolution it should happen over a period of time, if we can live with a Communist government in China, we ought to be able to accept it in Indochina."
Wow.

Basically all these guys gave their lives, NOT because we had to win the war, but because we couldn't afford to look as if we'd lost.

Kissinger should be hung.

(with thanks to the professor)

Have you guys read "The Case Against Henry Kissinger"? I think it ran in Harper's sometime in 2001. It was probably the last set of articles written by a sane Christopher Hitchens, and it laid out the evidence to prosecute Kissinger as a war criminal.

To hell with it all. I'm so frustrated anymore. It just seems to get worse with no end in sight. Colbert's speech gave me some joy, momentary as it was, but now that we're back into the surreal realm of manufactured crises ('evil Mexicans'; the FBI search of Jefferson's office) designed to obscure real ones, I find myself quick to anger when the conversation turns to politics, and I worry I'm becoming as brittle as those I despise. How sad!

Are you guys home? How was Paris? How was Marcus' show? My mom and I really wanted to go but I had a stupid condo meeting the afternoon of his opening. I completely forgot about it and wished heartily that I could have ditched it. Oh well. Perhaps he has some work here I can see. I'd love to if he does.

Hope you guys are well --

Muchos abrazos

Hey Kate!

Yes we are back. Paris was fabulous. I took a ton of digital photos. I should probably post them somewhere.

Marcus said his show was a success. The Daily Illini wrote an article on it, so he and Katrina were on cloud 9. He'll be in Urbana until August when his lease is up. Don't worry about not making it down there, we appreciate you and Betty even contemplating it.

We've been swamped. As soon as we got back we hopped in the car to drive to Urbana for Marcus' graduation. And it's been a nonstop rollercoaster since.

I've been freelancing for a publishing company and they offered me a job, so I accepted. I've also been upgrading my hardware and software due to the unfortunate demise of my G4, which took alot of my files down with it. JOT is gearing up for their Health issue, I just got the manuscript today.

The professor is neck deep in administrative work for his position as Deputy Provost which technically begins in July. Plus the usual dissertation defenses, etc., that have always come with the territory.

Sure the country's going to hell in a handbasket, but who can complain? World Cup begins in a few short weeks!

What are you working on? How's Sonny?
Let's get together and come up with a plan to save the Democrats.

ciao

Sounds like a plan!! I miss you guys. We're going to LA at the end of the month, then down to Oaxaca for July and part of August (woo hoo!). Juchitan, in fact, that matrifocal place on the istmus with the transvestite festival. I'll tell you all about it over lunch, coffee, something. Perhaps a bbq up here? Something around your schedule.

I'm working like mad on the virgin project, which I'm soon going to let go of when I hand it over to Selma in LA. I'm so thrilled to hear your news and that everything is going well. I'd love to see you. Let me know when you have time.

Muchos abrazos y besos
