Update from Houston

Ceds called back. Some medical staff were attacked a convenience store near the Astrodome. Baylor has requested that the first-years not return to volunteer until there's a bit more oversight. At least the volunteers can leave. There's still not enough security for the refugees.

Ok, so they're flat out telling us not to go again until they've decided it's safe enough--several female volunteers were accosted in the corridors of the Astrodome tonight (remember how I said the corridors were dark and sketchy?). If we can get a big enough group together to go (so we can walk around in threes I guess) we might go again this weekend, but people are getting scared...oh, and there are UT cops guarding our apartment complex (anticipating badness I presume...) expecting at least 10,000 more people this weekend, and they're going to try to take the kids to Six Flags supposedly. I can only imagine that this will get much worse before it gets better--people are frustrated, and that will understandably rapidly turn to anger. Send your prayers this way, and maybe some $$ to the Red Cross!

It is so completely and utterly screwed up. Where the hell is our government? Where is FEMA? Run by a loser with no experience, I guess it should be no surprise. What a mess.

Take care, Ceds. It was so good to see you yesterday, Lenora. I've missed you!!

Lenora, are you in town? Welcome back, for a little while anyway. You've been doing a great job commenting on the N.O. crisis, much better than I.
